Myth: a bigger AC cools cheaper.
It does the opposite. An oversized system satisfies the thermostat fast, shuts off, and starts again — short cycling. It never runs long enough to pull humidity out, it wears out sooner, and it costs more to run than a right-sized unit. That is why we do a Manual J load calculation at your home instead of sizing off square footage. The slider above uses a rule of thumb; it is not how we size a real system.
